Outdoor Instructor Training Programme
December 2024 – March 2025
Are you looking to start a career in the Outdoor Adventure / Education Industry
The Wiltshire Outdoor Learning Team CIC are running a 16 week instructor training course from 2nd December to 28th March 2025.
We will pay your 1st years membership to both Paddle UK and British Mountaineering Council.
You will be trained up to the following National Governing Body standard (and entered for assessment):
• Lowland Leader Award
• Paddle Sport Safety Rescue Course
• Paddle Sport Instructor
• Archery GB
• 16 hour Outdoor First Aid
• D of E gold assessor
• IOL Facilitating Experiential Learning
You will also receive the following National Governing Body training:
• Climbing Wall Instructor – training
In addition you will receive site specific training for:
• Axe throwing
• High ropes course instructor
• Low ropes course instructor
• Mountain-bike instructor
• Zip wire lead
• Team Challenge
• Battle Archery
• Pioneering
• Orienteering
• Bush craft
• Raft Building
• Mega SUP
• Mobile Climbing Walls
• Temporary Low Ropes
• Laser Tag
• Wide Games
Plus you will receive experience in running quality outdoor development sessions for the following customer groups:
• Corporate
• Mainstream school groups
• SEN groups
• Tourists and family groups
• Private 1 to 1 coaching sessions
• Parties – children and adults
As part of your 16 week training you will also be supplied with the following instructor kit (Worth approx. £1000) – Yours to keep to ensure you have kit to begin your Instructor Career.

• Paddle instructor helmet

• Climbing helmet

The instructor training will initially be based at our Thoulstone (BA13 4AQ), Roundwood / Brokerswood sites (BA13 4EH) but will also involve being transported to many venues both in and outside of Wiltshire via our centre minibuses. A typical week would involve up to 4 days of direct training and 1 day of either on-line training or logging activities (e.g. hikes / climbs).
Cost: The cost is £3500 (payment in instalments is possible)
After the 16 weeks?
Our aim will be to make you as employable as possible ready for the 2025 season. If you achieve high quality standard of instruction, WOLT will potentially offer you some freelance work on both DofE and Activity days. Pay £180 – £200 a day depending on length of day and responsibilities.
