Apprentice Outdoor Instructor
We are super proud of our Apprenticeship programme. Run in partnership with Locomotivation you will work towards Level 3 in Adventurous Outdoor Instructor.
Each year we try to take on up to 5 people to join our 13 month apprenticeship programme. This usually runs from September to October or February – March
Initially based at our Thoulstone site you will gain the skills and experience to be ready to gain full-time employment in the outdoor industry.
Qualifications: You will be entered into the following National Governing Body Qualifications:
– Paddle Sport Safety Rescue Course
– Paddle sport Instructor
– 16 Hour Nationally Recognised First Aid
– Mountain Training Lowland Leader Training and Assessment
– UK Archery Leader
Training: You will also receive training and experience on the following activities:
– Mobile climbing walls
– Temporary Low Ropes
– Wide Games
– Team challenges
– Pioneering
– Crossbows/Sling shots
– Orienteering
– Raft Building
– D of E Expedition work
– Traditional High Ropes Course Battle Archery
– Zip Wires
– Low Ropes
– Laser Tag
– Adventure Park High Ropes Course
Experience: You will receive experience in working with the following ‘clients / groups’ across the Wiltshire area (and beyond):
– Mainstream school groups SEND/SEMH pupils
– Private Parties Corporate Groups
– Home Educators Tourist/Holiday Makers
How much will you earn: As an apprentice you will be paid national minimum wage for apprentices, but once you have become confident and competent there will be opportunities to earn overtime paid at our instructor / support rate depending on the duty.
What next: Many of our apprentices go abroad to develop their skills in more challenging environments and use their qualifications as a chance to explore.
Seasonal Outdoor Instructor
If you have experience and some NGB’s come and spend a season with the WOLT.
Length of contract: March – October
Desirable qualifications: NGB’s: PSI, Archery GB, Lowland Leader, CWI
Essential experience: working with a variety of clientele in an outdoor education / adventure setting running a variety of ‘typical’ adventure activities.
Minimum age: 18
Pay: £ Depending on qualifications from £11.50 p/h
Part-time Outdoor Instructor Support
If you are looking for a looking for a part-time job that involves working in the outdoors, meeting and developing people and have a personal interest in outdoor adventure activities – this is the part -time job for you.
Location: Thoulstone, Brokerswood, Frome Lilley’s Cider (you must be
able to get to these various locations for work)
When: Between March – September
Activities: supporting the full-time staff to deliver quality outdoor adventure sessions to tourists, birthday parties, school groups and community events
Minimum age: 16
Main working times: usually between 0800-1700 weekends plus week days during school holidays. Note – this is a zero hour contract
Pay rate: Depending on experience and responsibilities from £8.40 p/h
Freelance Instructors
If you are a freelance instructor with suitable NGBs, experience in working with school groups and supporting / running Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, and have a passion for quality then please contact us.
Desirable NGBs: ML, Lowland Leader or Mountain and Moorland, PSI or PSL,
Current pay rates: Depending on length of day and responsibility £150 – £200
